We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join a dynamic research team in population neuroscience of sickle cell disease (SCD).
The long-term goal of our studies is to elucidate the pathogenesis and trajectory of cognitive dysfunction across the lifespan in adults with SCD, providing in this way the opportunity to develop preventive and therapeutic strategies for a complication that is currently poorly understood and untreated.
Candidates who have graduated with PhD or MD/PhD degrees with a strong record of peer-reviewed publications (including at least one first author publication) are encouraged to apply. Training in neuroscience and experience with data analysis are highly desirable.
Available data include the largest repository of 7 Tesla brain MRI scans in SCD, laboratory data and other clinical variables extracted from the electronic health records, an extensive battery of neurocognitive tests, and psychosocial metrics, thus, allowing the opportunity to conduct comprehensive analyses of the determinants of cognitive function in the SCD population. The position offers rich opportunities for independent analysis and interpretation of data, writing detailed scientific reports and mentoring graduate and undergraduate students. Though the position is funded, candidates will be mentored to apply for additional support. In addition to core projects, postdocs are expected to pursue original hypotheses.
